The Chronicles of Prydain consists of a series of five novels that take place in the land of Prydain. A high king ruled this fictional country and several other overseas countries. The story and the characters of this fictional story are inspired by Welsh mythology and folklore and are based on Wales.
The series is about an unknown parentage-living protagonist named Taran, who lives with an old enchanter and a farmer, Dallben and Coll, respectively. Taran is named Assistant Pig-Keeper, as he is appointed to help care for and protect Hen Wen, a white oracular magically empowered pig. In this series of adventures, the engaging cast of characters to protect the land of Prydain from various threats joins Taran in his quest to become a hero.
Taran’s major companions in the novels are Princess Eilonwy, the bard Fflewddur Fflam, the wild beast-man Gurgi, and the dwarf Doli. Furthermore, the hero also works with other companions, including fair Folks and warriors, against the force of evil.
