There is a hole in the ground where the hobbit lived. These holes are neither nasty, dirty, wet holes that are filled with worms and other filthy materials nor dry and sandy holes with nothing in them to live comfortably and eat. In fact, this is beyond an ordinary hole; it is a hobbit hole, which indicates pure comfort.
Hobbits are considered small humanlike creatures that characteristically value peace, comfort, simplicity, and cozy homes. However, that does not mean they are cowardly; in fact, they are capable of showing incredible courage and resourcefulness.
The Hobbit’s unwilling hero, Bilbo Baggins, is persuaded by the wizard Gandalf to leave his village, Hobbiton, in order to rescue their stolen treasure from the dragon Smaug’s guards. Bilbo is no longer accepted when he and Gandalf return to Hobbiton because of his adventurous attitude.
The Hobbit follows Bilbo’s journey from a comfort seeker to a fighter who strives for the greater good. Despite his lack of understanding of how to rely on his inner strength, he proves to be an unlikely hero capable of metamorphosis.
