Lets face it we are all plagued by anxiety at some point in our lives. According to Anxiety & Depression Association of America, anxiety affects around 40 million adults in the US and weforum.org estimates that 275 million people worldwide suffer from anxiety.

It is not necessarily unwanted events that can trigger anxiety. Even exciting events like starting a new job or getting married can make us anxious.  However, these kind of anxieties are all normal because at least when that event passes we carry on with our lives and the anxiety is gone.

But what if you are constantly anxious? What if your anxiety has taken over all aspects of your life and gets in the way of you doing what you love? There are several anxiety illnesses that are more serious such as generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder just to mention a few. These can be debilitating and are hard to fight off.

Anxiety like most mental health issues is not easily spotted by those around us therefore it may be difficult for us to seek help. We suffer in silence and the problem only gets bigger. However, even in silence, help is available.

Thankfully there is a plethora of books available to assist us to overcome anxiety. There are others who have been plagued by anxiety and overcame it and have written about how they did it. If you are willing to spare time and read some anxiety books, it is possible to recover from anxiety.

The first step to recovery is to acknowlege that we do have a problem to solve rather than to pretend it is not there. The next step is to do something about it and be willing to invest time and effort towards our own well being.

Author Amy Lee Mecree writes,

“Invest time and energy in your well being. Create an atmosphere of emotional safety for yourself.”

Erin Hatzikostas founder of founder of b Authentic inc also writes,

“You have to invest if you want to progress.”

So if you are willing to put some time and money of course towards your well being, here is a list of some of the best anxiety books to help you on your journey. As the famous Harvard University academic Charles W Eliot once said,

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”

Considering the burden anxiety can cause, the cost and time we spend reading books is rather a small price to pay. By reading books we gain access to several counsellors and experts who have all been there. What is more is we can get this access at a fraction of the cost of actually seeing them in person and we also gain access anytime of the day and anywhere.

Anxiety can be overcome and we can come out on the other side so to speak. You can read whilst on the bus or on the train, during your lunch break at work, before bed, the options are endless. Reading is a flexible and low cost approach that is within reach for most of us. You can buy books or you can borrow from the local library or friends. Regardless of which option you choose, you are on the way to recovery when you make the decision to read because therein you will find words of wisdom to empower you.

Here are my recommendations of books that can help you on your journey to recovery. Best wishes on your journey and if you have find this post useful please share with friends.
